Celso Moretti

Celso Moretti is a globally recognized leader in food, fiber, and bioenergy systems, known for advancing agricultural innovation and strengthening research ecosystems across multiple continents. He holds a BSc in Agronomy, an MBA, an MSc, and a PhD in Food Production, combining scientific expertise with strategic leadership to drive sustainable, high-impact outcomes.
As former CEO of Embrapa, he led one of the world’s largest agricultural research enterprises, positioning it as a global reference in innovation, food security, climate resilience, and technological development. During his tenure, Embrapa expanded its international partnerships, modernized its research agenda, and consistently translated scientific advances into measurable improvements in agricultural systems.
Dr. Moretti is an alumnus of Harvard’s Kennedy School, a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Florida since 2006, and an honorary professor at Universidad Nacional del Santa in Peru. His international experience spans more than 45 countries as advisor, consultant, and keynote speaker, connecting science, policy, and global development.
He currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of The OpenAg Foundation in Switzerland and sits on the boards of CIP in Peru, CIMMYT in Mexico, and the Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition in the United Kingdom. In 2025, he was unanimously elected Chair of the CGIAR System Board and appointed to the Global Council of the World Agriculture Forum.
In the private sector, Dr. Moretti serves as Board Advisor to Oreasoc Group and as Board Director of Oreasoc Food, Oreasoc Agriculture, and Oreasoc Fertilizers, supporting the group’s strategic direction, global positioning, and long-term development. His distinctions include the Norman Borlaug Award (2021) and recognition in 2023 as one of the 100 most influential figures in Brazilian agriculture, underscoring his lasting impact on global food systems.
